It was an assignment for my Literature class; I was to interperet the "sketch in oils" that was described in Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
First I drew like 20 thumbnail sketches, trying to decide how to do it. Next, I scanned the one I liked into the computer and started to paint it in Painter IX. Then, after about ten minutes, I decided the whole thing looked like butthole and I swiveled on over to my drawing desk to begin anew. This is what came of it.
After inking the woman, I filled her in with Prismacolor markers (which I won in an art contest! ). Then I filled in the background (all those concentric circles) during my boring classes. I finished it with some more marker over the ink on the background.
Many thanks to ~RyverStock, who provided Ice 5 as a stock photo. I used it to get the perspective on the woman the way I wanted it.
The teeny tiniest circles that are white dots sort of sparkle in the rest of it...I've never read the book, so I can't say anything about your interpretation (though I'm sure it's wonderful), but it certainly stands alone as a piece of art.
